How to use Cursor auto-run safely
Auto-run makes Cursor’s agent fast. Here is how to keep that speed and still catch the one command you would never have allowed.
By the Pet Island team · Updated Oct 17, 2026 · 4 min readTurn on auto-run for speed, keep a short list of things that must always ask, and give those requests one safe place to land. With Pet Island, risky commands and MCP calls wait on the island instead of in a panel you are not looking at.
What auto-run changes
With auto-run, Cursor’s agent runs commands without stopping to ask in its own panel. That saves a lot of clicks — and it also means a wrong command can run before you notice.
Decide what must always ask
Most commands are harmless: running tests, installing packages, reading files. A few are not: deleting files, force-pushing, resetting a database, deploying.
Keep that short list in mind. Those are the steps that should always come to you.
Give them one safe gate
Connect Cursor in Pet Island. Commands and MCP tool calls from the agent wait on the island with what they will do. You never answer twice, and if the island is closed, risky commands are blocked instead of slipping through.
FAQ
Does this work with Cursor’s sandbox?
Yes. The island adds one more check on top; it does not replace anything Cursor already does.
Can I go back to Cursor’s own prompts?
Yes. Disconnect Cursor in Settings → Agents and everything is as it was.
Does it read my code?
No. It only shows what Cursor sends with each request, on your computer.
